Literacy is the ability to read written language.
Children with spoken language difficulties OFTEN have difficulty with literacy.
Emergent Literacy refers to the literacy skills a child acquires before they even start to read (holding a book right-side-up, recognizing text has meaning, etc).
It is important to expose all children to emergent literacy skills in daily activities, as reading is an important life skill for us all!
